The following courses are intended to enhance one’s employability by providing basic and introductory features of office software. Each course allows the participants to produce documentation and develop skills that are useful in any office setting or toward their educational journey. While improving computer skills, participants are also building confidence and aptitude that will aide in their job search.
Intro to Computers
This class will provide exposure to the personal computer and the Microsoft (MS) operating system. Participants will learn the basics of moving the mouse and moving throughout an electronic folder structure. Participants will use MS Explorer to access the Internet and review steps for creating an email address. This is a great course for someone that has not used a PC or would like to begin learning how to operate office hardware and software.
Intro to MS Word
This class will provide the basic foundation for word processing. Participants will create letters, memo, labels, and other documents using features such as formatting text & layout, headers/footers, Word Art, tables, inserting graphics, and a brief overview of mail merge. This is a good foundation course for those new to the office or a great refresher for those who’ve been away from the office setting.
Intro to MS Excel
In this course a basic foundation in spreadsheet creations is explored to organize and present data. Participants will create and edit worksheets using the following features: text & number formatting, workbook & worksheet layout, sorting, charts, and basic formulas. This course can be used to create your personal budget or complex accounting/finance spreadsheets.
Intro to MS PowerPoint
In this class participants will experience presentation graphics by creating electronic presentations. While creating slides, participants will add multimedia features, insert graphics & animation, and print flyers & signs. Participants will present their presentations to the class as a final project. This is a great class for home or office use of PowerPoint.
Intro to MS Publisher
This class will provide an opportunity to create desktop publishing documents such as flyers, posters, newsletters. Participants will learn how to prepare a booklet, business cards, banners and greeting cards while formatting text, inserting clip art, using word art and other creative features. This is a good course to enhance you publishing skills and improve existing office documents and forms.
Employment Process Enhancing Classes
The following classes were developed to assist spouses and family members with their employment search. These courses can serve as a conduit to civilian, contract, and self employment. Each class can bring clarity and provide an ease of use to becoming employed.
Resumix and Federal Employment
Participants will review various federal employment websites, create accounts and online federal resumes as well as receive an overview of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) and General Schedule (GS) system. Participants will learn the steps to key words that will aide in completing the federal application process.
Resume Writing with Word
Participants will receive an overview of chronological, functional and hybrid resumes as well as craft or improve their personal resume. Hearing what employers are looking for in resumes as well as reviewing resources will provide participants a better opportunity for success in their job search.
Networking and Interviewing
Participants will learn the art of network for career positions as well as the details of a successful interview. Each person will have an opportunity to have a mock interview and critique their experience. This is a good class to develop a brief individual presentation of your knowledge, skills and abilities.
Workplace Etiquette/Dress for Success
This class will provide an overview of appropriate behavior and attire for the workplace.
1-2-3 Career Fair Ready
What should I say to employers at the Career Fair? Participants will learn how to research companies and verbally present their skill set to employers. The instructor will review existing resumes. Participants may also have an opportunity to print additional resumes and business cards for use at the career fair. Participant will learn how to make the most of their interactions with employers.
Career Exploration
Participants will review the fastest growing professions and the education and skills required. Participants will also experience a career interest inventory and other resources to aide in the discovery of their chosen career field. Find out what skills best accompany a military spouse. This is a good class to discover or refocus your career journey.
