The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program for Soldiers who have family member(s) with any physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual disorder that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training or counseling. The program works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support, housing, educational, medical, and personal services to families with special needs.
Support Groups and Informational Seminars:
• CAUSE (Community for Autism Understanding, Support, and Education) This group brings together the caregivers/families of people who have been diagnosed with any type of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This includes: Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD), Rett's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS).
The CAUSE support group meets the second Tuesday of designated months from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Vogelweh Elementary School Library. Guest speakers at our support group meetings provide assistance and insights into the world of Autism, and information that will help members of the group in general. Contact the USAG Kaiserslautern EFMP office for more information.
• Great IDEAS (Information for Diabetes Education, Awareness, and Support) This support group meets quarter for young adults and children who have been diagnosed with diabetes (any type), as well as their caregivers. It offers support, genuine understanding, helpful information, and other “great ideas” for living successfully with diabetes.
Systems Navigation - is a new community support service under the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Navigators will work with Service Members and Families to strengthen their ability to advocate for themselves and the EFM by identifying EFM and Family strengths and needs, identifying and prioritizing goals through a comprehensive Family Service Plan, providing information about disabilities or medical conditions, and identifying respite care, support groups and social activities for all Family members.
Reference Library - The EFMP program has a growing library of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and online resource information for families with special needs, all available for the community to check out.
Advocacy - The EFMP manager and EFMP Systems Navigators are here to assist EFM families and available to attend IEP meetings, doctor’s appointments, EDIS appointments, DoDDS meetings, and more.
The ACS EFM Program is here to provide any and all support to your family to ensure that special needs are addressed in the KMC!
