UPCOMING EVENTS!
NOISES OFF PREMIERES: The hilarious farce "Noises Off" will be offered at KMC Onstage at 7:30 pm on 5, 6, 12 and 13 March. The production was postponed from its originally scheduled opening (19 Feb) due to numerous weather-related rehearsal cancellations. "Noises Off" concerns a dysfunctional and marginally talented company of actors who are rehearsing a sex comedy to tour to the provinces. As personal peccadilloes ensue and relationships (and morale) erode, the result is a play-within-a-play that is in comic disarray. The cast not only includes a few KMCO favorites but some highly talented newcomers, and two actors (one a soldier) who are appearing in their first play ever. "Noises Off" is the USAG-K comedy entry into the IMCOM-E Tournament of Plays (adjudicators are in attendance for the 28 Feb showing).Tickets are available at the Landstuhl One Stop, DSN 486-8146, CIV 06371-86-8146, or at KMC Onstage, Bldg. 3232 Kleber Kaserne, DSN 483-6626; CIV 0631-411-6626.
AUDITIONS FOR A NEW MUSICAL: Open tryouts will be held for singers, dancers, and actors for the brand-new Tony award winning musical "The Drowsy Chaperone" on 15 and 16 March, each evening at 7:00 pm at KMC Onstage, Bldg 3232, Kleber Kaserne. "The Drowsy Chaperone" pays tribute to the Jazz-age shows of the 1920s and the power those shows held to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and to lift our spirits in times of sadness. A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, "The Drowsy Chaperone” boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love. Thirteen major roles in varied age groups are available and a strong chorus is needed. A pianist, large orchestra, and technicians are also required.
"The Drowsy Chaperone" replaces the previously announced "Chicago" which was unavailable due to current copyright clearance restrictions. For more information contact KMC Onstage, Bldg. 3232 Kleber Kaserne, DSN 483-6626;
CIV 0631-411-6626. (Performances dates: 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 May 2010)
DRIVING MISS DAISY: KMC Onstage will present the world famous, award winning play "Driving Miss Daisy" in a dinner theatre setting at the KCAC, Bldg. 3109, Daenner Kaserne. Shows with dinner are scheduled on 26 and 27 March, and 3 April. Tickets for these three dinner theatre performances are $20 each, including the meal and the show. There is a cash bar available. Dinner is served promptly at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:30 pm. The menu will be Southern-themed in keeping with the play's Atlanta setting. On Friday, 2 April there is a performance without dinner service (but with cash bar), at 7:30 pm, for an $8 admission. Dinner tickets must be purchased by the Wednesday prior to the show dates by calling/visiting the Landstuhl One Stop, DSN 486-8146, CIV 06371-86-8146, or at KMC Onstage, Bldg. 3232 Kleber Kaserne, DSN 483-6626; CIV 0631-411-6626.
IAM STRONG CONCERT: On Sunday, 14 March rising R&B artist Leigh Jones, the band Animate Objects, and comedians Jessi Campbell and Drew Thomas will give a free 90-minute performance at the Kazabra Club, Bldg. 2057, Vogelweh. Doors open at 5 pm. The show will kick-off with a brief warm-up act featuring one song each performed by Family Member Jeff Lawson, USAFE band vocalist Amy Lukens-Malone, and USAG-K Operation Rising Star winner Tyrone Basnight.
These I.A.M. Strong concerts in the US And Europe are co-sponsored by the DA BOSS/Army G-1, and the Army Entertainment Division of the Family and
Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command. This tour is dedicated to helping eliminate sexual assault. The I. A.M. STRONG acronym stands for intervene, act and motivate others to stop sexual harassment, assaults and sexually offensive language, innuendo and gestures that create an environment friendly to abuse. Toleration of these acts among troops has been reduced to zero, Army leaders say. There is no admission charge and the show is open to all. Normal food and beverage service will be available for purchase at the Kazabra Club venue, allowing attendees to relax and enjoy a live performance in a space commensurate to entertainment industry standards.
While it is family friendly and can be enjoyed by all, the main target demographic of this important message is the young service member. Locally, the event is co-sponsored by USAG-K BOSS, Entertainment, and ACS. In addition to the 9 pm performance on 14 March, Ms. Jones will eat lunch at the Landstuhl DFAC followed by a personal appearance at the USO Warrior Center where, logistics permitting, she may also sing a couple of songs.
POS is Jim Sohre, DSN 483-6252, CIV 0631-411-6252.
