Heidelberg School-Age Center (SAC) provides care for first through fifth-graders on a year-round basis. SAC offers programming in the Army Four Service Areas:

  • Sports, Fitness and Health Options
  • Life Skills, Citizenship and Leadership opportunities
  • Arts, Recreation and Leisure Activities
  • Mentoring, Intervention and Education Support Services.

The program features Activity "Zones" in the following areas: Computers, Science, Arts, Crafts, Sports Programs and Theater Arts. Children engage in activities of their choice and are also offered dietician-approved meal and snack options in the facility's "Snack Zone." On an average day, children might simultaneously craft quilts, play soccer, create self-portraits, dress up as a businesswoman in the dramatic play area, complete homework or play a favorite board game.

Heidelberg SAC was accredited by the National Afterschool Association in 2006. In addition, SAC maintains partnerships with community groups as well as national organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H Clubs. Another integral partnership is with Character Counts!, an organization that focuses on character development.

All employees at the facility complete an 18-month training program and are required to undergo a series of background checks.
