Relocation Readiness provides valuable information to Military members, Civilians, and Families relocating to or from the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC). Classes and briefings are presented for community members at ACS facilities, but we are also pleased to conduct our trainings at military units and organizations as well. Our services include: A two-day Newcomers’ Orientation, a Kaiserslautern City Tour, Sponsorship training, Smooth Moves for your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) class, and Re-entry workshops. The Relocation Readiness Program also provides helpful welcome packets that contain maps, bus schedules, and even phone directories! One-on-one Relocation Counseling is also available, as well as the Lending Closet for temporary loans of small household good. For foreign Spouses preparing to move to the United States, there is even a Foreign Spouse Orientation class, which provides helpful information about American customs and culture. In addition, we also offer English as a Second Language (ESL) and Conversational German classes. All of our classes and services are free, and are a great way to help you adapt to your new community. The Information and Referral Program works alongside the Relocation Program to provide valuable materials, resources and information for Soldiers, Civilians and Families in the KMC. The Relocation Readiness Program is housed in the Army Community Service building, Pulaski Barracks, Bldg. 2891. Standard hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm. Driver’s License: Obtain the necessary materials to study for your USAREUR License before arriving in Germany: http://rmv.hqusareur.army.mil. Pet requirements: Pets must have the ISO chip brand (an international chip) when flying commercial. It is recommended you contact your airline to verify specific requirements prior to departure. When flying Military Airlift Command (MAC), however, pets must have the AVID chip. Some pets are classified as dangerous by the German government, and may therefore be restricted. We offer a "Foreign Spouse Orientation/USA Bound" workshop for all foreigners new to the United States. This class will cover American culture and customs, and is offered once a month. Sponsorship Training: This training is offered once a month at ACS, or at individual units upon request. Remember, “You never get a second chance to make a great first impression!” English as a Second Language and Conversational German classes: ACS offers English as a Second Language and Conversational German classes to improve clients' understanding of the English and German languages, which will better enable them to communicate within the KMC. Smooth Moves for Your PCS: This class is offered once a month and contains vital information on Transportation, Housing, ACS Relocation Readiness services, Finance, Shipping Sets, Transportation Claims, and several helpful Websites. This workshop is for Servicemembers, Civilians and their Families re-entering the United States from overseas. Kaiserslautern City Tour: This tour is conducted monthly on a Saturday. The trip includes a 2 ½ hour tour of the Casimirsaal and Catacombs, as well as a walk through old downtown to the Emperor’s Fountain. Newcomers' Orientation: The Newcomers' Orientation is offered once a month to provide community information and facilitate cultural adaptation. This is a two-day class, with the first day consisting of community agency briefings, and the second day features a bus ride downtown, using local transportation, and a cultural orientation – even enjoying a delicious lunch in a traditional German restaurant! Lending Closet: The Lending Closet will loan basic household goods for up to 60 days, to help ease the transition of a PCS. Customers may borrow dishes, silverware, pots & pans, coffee pots, irons & ironing boards, toasters, pack-and-plays, high chairs, vacuum cleaners & more!
