Information for the Overseas Job Seeker:

The process of seeking and obtaining employment overseas is very similar to the process anywhere, but the availability of jobs is more limited. Plan on a 2-6 month wait and budget accordingly.

Getting Started:

Flexibility: Keep your options open by being flexible on position levels and employment opportunities outside your target career area.

Category/Status: Know your employment category and preference status. Use your Military Spouse Preference wisely.

Network: Make contacts in the community. Strong contacts are obtained by getting out and being involved. Volunteering is known to be one of the best networking vices. The US Government recognizes volunteer work experience as actual work experience.

Persistence: Trying for a few weeks and then waiting for something to happen is not going to get it done. Check the CHRA and other online job websites at least twice a week, constantly improve upon existing resumes and the RESUMIX, and stay in touch with your Employment Readiness Office.

Paperwork/Documents
: Organize and maintain originals and hand-carry these important documents during moves:

  • Past resumes, applications and letter of reference
  • Background Check information with complete names, addresses and phone numbers. Past 10 years is advised.
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • College Transcripts
  • DD-214 Military Personnel Paper Work
  • SF-15 and VRA letters
  • Latest LES
  • Sponsors Order
