The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program for soldiers who have a family member with a physical, emotional, developmental, or educational disability which requires specialized medical treatment, therapy, counseling, and/or education.
Support Groups and Informational Seminars:
• ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) Group So many people’s lives are affected by ADHD, and this group supports those who have the disorder, as well as their caregivers, offering support and information to those affected by the disorder.
• BRAG (Bypass Recovery and Awareness Group) Making the decision to undergo gastric bypass surgery is life-altering, and can be very difficult. This is a group for those who are contemplating the surgery, those who have committed to it, those who are in recovery, and those who have fully recovered and are living post-bypass. It provides education and support for a successful, positive, and lasting life change.
• CAUSE (Community for Autism Understanding, Support, and Education) This group includes caregivers of people who have been diagnosed with any type of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), including: Autism, Asperger's syndrome, Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD), Rett's syndrome, Pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS)
• Great IDEAS (Information for Diabetes Education, Awareness, and Support) This group is for young adults and children who have been diagnosed with diabetes (any type), as well as their caregivers, offering support, genuine understanding, helpful information, and other “great ideas” for living successfully with this disease.
• REACH Group The name means “Realizing our potential, Enjoying life, Accessing our community, Caring for each other, and Helping those around us,” and that is the basis of the group. It is open to young adults with special needs, as well as their families. REACH is a multi-faceted group that provides participants the opportunity to participate in various activities and socialize with peers, leading to the formation of long-lasting bonds and the development of common interests. Group members aim to become more independent and involved in their community, and this is a great tool to help them “reach” that goal.
