After Arriving in Heidelberg... Lending Closet: Many customers value the service of the ACS Loan closet.
In- and out-processing personnel and their family members can borrow a
variety of items free of charge for a period of 30 days. Items include 220V
electrical items such as irons, coffeemakers and toasters, kitchenware such
as pots & pans, dishes and flatware, and childcare items such strollers and
cribs. You can also place a request for loaner items online: Issue & Return Form Community Orientations: Service members will participate at the In-processing Training Center (ITC) in a 12-Day In-Processing Training. ACS offers a community orientation every Monday from 1200-1530 . Spouses are welcome to attend any of these briefings. Families Learning About Germany (FLAG): Most service members will receive
cultural adaptation training as part of the in-processing. ACS offers a
similar class called FLAG tailored towards the needs of family members, DOD
civilians and DOD sponsored contractors. The ACS staff makes arrangement for
child care. Free child care is offered during the FLAG classes. English as a Second Language (ESL): One of the goals of Heidelberg ACS
Relocation Readiness Program is to help non-English speaking military Family
members, many of them new to the Army, overcome language barriers and to
assist with day-to-day business. Additionally we are aware of the potential
stress inherent in moving to a foreign country on a foreign spouse.
See attached tri-fold for ESL classes available on MTV and PHV. Foreign-Born Spouses Group: The ACS Foreign-Born Spouse Group is a
multicultural, multiethnic group. Once a month foreign born spouses get
together for tea, coffee or an outing, during which a wide rang of topics
are discussed such as adjusting to life in the foreign country, raising
bilingual children, hobbies and much more. The group is a wonderful resource
for foreign-born spouses living in the Heidelberg area. Best of all, it Waiting Families Support: It is inevitable that throughout a Soldier's career, he/she will be separated from his/her family. In some cases, the Soldier leaves the family for his/her entire tour, while others wait until housing becomes available. Some decide to stay in the immediate area until the Soldier returns. Regardless of the circumstance, it can sometimes be overwhelming without support networks and proper information to assist the family throughout the separation. ACS Heidelberg is committed providing support services to families residing on-post or in the surrounding community who are living separately from the military and civilian sponsor because of mission requirements. Such circumstances include unaccompanied tours, extended temporary duty and field training. For more information, email ACS Heidelberg. Sponsor Training: S-Gate is the online USAREUR Sponsorship Gateway to Europe. It is a six-part Internet application intended to simplify the administration of the sponsorship program and to ensure that every soldier is assigned a sponsor and that every sponsor gets registered. In addition to S-Gate, ACS offers more in-depth and specific USAG Heidelberg information. Need more information? Visit our ACS Welcome Center or contact the Relocation Readiness Program Manager. |
