Financial Education:The following classes are available upon request to units, individual sections and Family Readiness groups:
Buying Your First Home – The steps to home ownership, mortgage basics, credit reporting, your home search, and web resources. (2 hours)
Consumer Affairs - Provides short informal translation services on local utility companies, reading water/sewage and telephone bills, and how and where to pay traffic tickets.
Finance Fundamentals – This class includes the following topics: Credit profile management, money management strategies, financial goal setting, introduction to investment principles, concluding with a Thrift Savings Plan discussion. (1 hour)
Identity Theft – This class takes a quick look at the role and importance of understanding credit management in today’s society. In light of the increased trafficking and mismanagement of personal identity information, discussion will take place on the origins and uses of this personal identity data by corporations and government today. Learn about strategies to monitor and reduce the flow of this critical information. Also included is information in obtaining a free credit report, what is a FICO score and why does it matter? (1 hour)
Investing Overview – This brief class covers basic investment principals and concepts and concludes with Thrift Savings Plan discussion. (1 hour)
Investment Basics – This course is designed for the beginning investor where we will discuss the importance of putting your money to work for you, the benefits of using tax advantaged accounts (IRAs, TSP), and the risks to consider. (2 hours)
Life Insurance – An introductory class to aid in the understanding of this building block to financial security. (1 hour)
Mandatory First-Termers Program - Class discusses principles of personal finance to include: understanding the military pay system, planning and budgeting, banking & checking.
Mutual Fund Basics – An introductory class covering the important aspects one needs to understand and consider being an informed consumer of this investment option. (2 hours)
All classes are held in Bldg 3850 Room 172 at the Heidelberg Shopping Center. Registration is required.
